Good to know

Round up, not down. Rounding down leaves the person who paid the bill short, and they will remember.
Many restaurants add a service charge to the bill. Check before tipping, or you may tip twice.
The popular story that "tip" stands for "to insure promptness" is a myth. Etymologists find no evidence for the acronym.

How do I split a bill by shares?

Give each person a number of shares, for example 1 for a light eater and 2 for someone who had twice as much. The total is divided by all the shares, and each person pays their shares' worth.

Is the tip added before or after splitting?

Before. The tip or service charge is added to the total, then the new total is split, so everyone pays their fair part of it.

Can I send the split to my group?

Yes. Copy the summary or share it straight to WhatsApp, so everyone sees what they owe and can pay by transfer.

Do you see my bill?
