The Hidden AI Performers Already Inside Your Company

The people who will make your AI strategy succeed are probably already on your payroll.

Before you hire an AI consultant or an entire AI department, there is something important you should know: the people who will make your AI strategy succeed are probably already on your payroll. I call these people Hidden AI Performers. ## Who They Are A Hidden AI Performer is not necessarily technical. They are the marketing manager who has been using AI tools to cut her content production time in half. The customer service team lead who built his own workflow for handling escalations. The finance analyst who found three AI shortcuts none of her colleagues know about. They are competent, curious and self-directed. They were already using AI before anyone at the executive level was paying attention. ## Why They Matter More Than You Think Hidden AI Performers matter for three reasons. **They have context.** An external AI hire will spend six months learning your business. Your Hidden AI Performer already knows it deeply — where the inefficiencies are, which processes are genuinely painful, which team leads will resist change. **They have credibility.** When change comes from a known colleague rather than an outside consultant, adoption rates go up. People are more willing to try something recommended by someone they already trust. **They signal cultural readiness.** Their presence tells you that your organisation already has the seeds of AI adoption. That is a significant head start. ## How to Find Them You will not find them by sending a survey. The most capable ones are least likely to raise their hand formally. Find them through observation. Who is consistently faster than their peers? Who produces outputs that seem disproportionate to their effort? Find them through informal conversation. Ask your team leads: who on your team surprises you with how they get things done? ## What to Do With Them Give them permission and space before you give them a job description. Ask what they have been doing. Ask what is working. Then give them a small, visible mandate where they can demonstrate impact. A Hidden AI Performer who delivers a visible result becomes an internal AI champion. That is worth more than any number of external hires in the early stages of an AI transformation. --- ## Let's Talk If what you have read here connects with where your business is right now, I would like to hear from you.
