Why I Am Obsessed With the One-Person $100 Million Company
How much can one capable person, with the right AI tools and systems, actually build? I keep coming back to that question, and so should anyone running a business.
There is a question I keep coming back to. How much can one capable person, with the right AI tools and systems, actually build?
I mean it literally. I want to know the answer.
## What the question really asks
A one-person $100 million company does not mean one person working a hundred times harder. It means a business where AI and automation have changed the ratio between the people doing the work and the value it produces so far that growth no longer needs headcount.
Two questions hide inside it. Can one person do the work of a hundred? That is about productivity. Can one person, with the right systems, create enough value that a market pays for it at that scale? That is the interesting one.
## Why Africa is the place to ask it
Delivering services here costs a lot relative to what most customers can pay. Legal advice, financial guidance, health information and education stay out of reach for millions of people because of what it costs to deliver them the traditional way.
Any technology that sharply cuts the cost of delivery opens a market that did not exist before. A very small team using AI to deliver one of those services at African scale is becoming realistic. The open question is who builds it first.
## What it means if you run an established business
You do not need to be building a one-person company for this to matter to you. Ask which parts of your business still run at today's cost simply because nobody has rebuilt them with AI yet.
The harder version: if a well-funded competitor rebuilt your business from scratch with AI at the centre, what would their cost base look like next to yours? How long before they matched your output with a fraction of your headcount?
Then look at your cost base again.
## Where to start
One function. Ask what it would look like rebuilt with AI at the centre. Build it for real, run it alongside the current way, measure both and keep improving it.

## Working Together
If this is close to where your business is right now, I would like to hear about it. I work with a small number of clients at a time and I read every message myself.
