Client Success Teams Automate the Wrong End First

Teams automate the part the client sees and leave the internal reporting alone. It should be the other way round.

Client success teams almost always automate the wrong end first. They start with the client facing layer. Automated check in emails. A chatbot on the support page. Templated review decks. The parts a client can see, which is exactly where automation reads as a downgrade in service. Nobody has ever renewed a contract because the check in email arrived faster. Meanwhile the internal work stays manual. Somebody is still rebuilding the same account plan every quarter, still transcribing their own meeting notes, still assembling a review deck from four systems the night before. That is the part nobody would notice being automated, and the part that is eating the time. Get it backwards and you produce the worst outcome available. Clients feel handled by a machine, and your team is still exhausted. The better sequence is simple enough to be unsatisfying. Automate what your team does alone. Protect what your team does with clients. Every hour you return to an account manager should be spent in front of somebody, not on the next internal report. There is a governance reason too. Internal work usually runs on your own data. Client facing automation runs on theirs, in public, with your name on it. Start where a mistake costs you an afternoon rather than a relationship. Ask your team which of their weekly tasks no client would ever see. Start there. *Stanislaus Martins trains enterprise teams across Sub Saharan Africa on practical AI adoption.
