CGPA calculator

Your GPA and CGPA on a 5 or 4-point scale, with your class of degree.

Enter this semester's courses, credit units and grades, and see your GPA straight away. Add your previous CGPA and units to see where your cumulative now stands, and what class of degree that points to.

Why use it

  • Know exactly where you stand before results are released, not after.
  • See how much one heavy course can lift or drag your CGPA, so you know where to put your effort.
  • Plan ahead: try the grades you are aiming for and see what they do to your class of degree.

How it works

  1. Pick your scale: 5-point (A=5 down to F=0) or 4-point (A=4 down to F=0).
  2. Add each course with its credit units and the grade you got or expect.
  3. If you have earlier results, enter your previous CGPA and the total units behind it.
  4. Read your GPA, your new CGPA and, on the 5-point scale, the class of degree it falls in.

Good to know

  • GPA is a weighted average: a 3-unit course counts three times as much as a 1-unit course. That is why one carry-over in a big course hurts so much.
  • The higher your total units, the harder it is to move your CGPA. Early semesters matter more than students tend to think.
  • To check by hand: multiply each grade point by its units, add them up, then divide by the total units.

Questions

How is CGPA calculated?

Multiply each course's grade point by its credit units, add the results across every course you have taken, then divide by the total credit units. GPA does the same for one semester only.

What CGPA is a First Class?

On the commonly used 5-point bands, 4.50 to 5.00 is First Class, 3.50 to 4.49 Second Class Upper, 2.40 to 3.49 Second Class Lower, 1.50 to 2.39 Third Class and 1.00 to 1.49 Pass. Institutions set their own rules and bands, so confirm with your handbook.

Can I convert my 5-point CGPA to a 4-point GPA?

There is no single official conversion. Universities and employers abroad often use their own method or a credential evaluation service, so ask the institution you are applying to how they want it.

Are my grades saved anywhere?

Only on your own device, so your courses are still there next time. Nothing you type is sent to us.

Provided free, as is, for general use. Results are estimates based on what you enter and on common grading scales. Your institution's own rules, grade points, rounding and degree classification bands are what count, and they may differ from those used here. Always check your student handbook or academic office.
